'Feeding the Hungry' in 2014
One of our primary goals this year is to make a major impact in our community. We should not be expendable! I firmly believe this will not be done with a series of events – because they will pass. While we will still do some events, we cannot pretend that our “vital” work for the community is entertainment. So over the next month, we will be discussing the reality of making this goal practical by looking at the ‘Jesus Model’ of engaging those in need around us. Matthew 25:35-40 outlines some basic needs people have including: hunger, thirst, clothing, health, feeling disconnected as a stranger, and feeling abandoned in prison. These same needs still exist today.
Our first step to meeting these needs in a way that is unique to the resources God has gifted us with is a garden. Our church building sits on 7 (flat) acres of sundrenched land. I will be outlining the mechanics of how this will work over the coming months, but this is one simple way for us to give back to our community that suffers from poverty and hunger. We are not powerless to act just because we do not have a lot of monetary resources! Pray for us as we flesh out other ways to apply the ‘Jesus Model’ to our priority list here in Mountain Grove, Missouri and beyond! I’ll keep you posted.
